Brunch at Campagnolo Midtown, Atlanta

photo 2 (3)

I love Brunch! It’s the most exciting part of Sunday it’s the perfect reason for Bloody Marys and Mimosa; so I while Scout Mob Surfing I stumbled upon Campagnolo and its 50% off deal, as most people would assume that if a restaurant has a “coupon” it must not be that great! Well you would be incorrect my friend! This is one of the best Brunch destinations in Atlanta!

Catch them while they are still on Scoutmob and have a Mimosa for me!

My Recommendations:
Tomato Bisque
Campagnolo Breakfast
Eggs Benedict
$5.00 Bloody Mary with $3.00 refills

Fried Potato Salad at King and Duke Buckhead, Atlanta

image

I was not expecting this when the waiter told me to try the potato salad. This definitely put potato salad on its head. I was actually impressed. King and Duke has a great ambiance and is a twist on modern American restaurant. Make sure you make a reservation, it gets pretty crowded after 6pm.

Capicola on Ciabatta Sandwich at STG Trattoria Buckhead, Atlanta

photo (7)

I was doing a Scout Mob search to see if there were any new restaurants that I haven’t tried, and lord behold STG Trattoria a tucked away Italian treat. For lunch that is, as I have not had the chance to visit for dinner.

Either way, while there I tried the:
capicola, aged asiago, manyfold farm egg, vidalia onion slaw, focaccia $8

This sandwich was awesome mediocre side salad aside.

This sandwich is defiantly get you out of your typical lunch time runt; if you have 45 minutes during luch you can take advantage of 50% of with the Scotmob app (which is only available for lunch for this restaurant) or you can call ahead, it’s still a great deal at 8 bucks!

They also have several other Italian inspired sandwiches and salads, calzones and pizzas

$8.95 House Dish for Two at Tin Drum AsiaCafe Various Locations, Atlanta

photo 5

While attending Georgia State University this past year I frequented Tin Drum Asia Cafe. Typically I would have the egg drop soup (which was too salty for my taste) and a veggie spring roll (which i would recommend).

Yet, my last time there, in fact it was the day I turned in my last paper at GSU. I tried the Mango Stir Fry on top of a bed of fried rice ($8.95). Tin Drum has several House Dishes which are bowls of various chicken stir fry’s over a bed of a choice of white, brown or fried rice.

The mango stir fry consisted of:

Sweet-chili sauce, fresh mango, basil, onions, bell peppers, jalapenos, crispy chicken, steamed white rice

It was pretty good, what I would expect from a asian fast food joint. Nothing to sing hallelujah over but enough for a return visit. But I digress, this bowl is far too much for one person unless you plan on taking some home for later; instead bring a friend or lover and share, this is a great deal for two people at $8.95!

Pulled Pork Arepa and Chicken Empanada at Arepa Mia Edgewood, Atlanta

photo 4 (1)photo 3 (1)

I’ve had Arepa’s in Miami. Pretty much only stuffed with cheese. Venezuelan native Lis Hernandez, native brings Arepa’s to life with Meat filled Arepa’s.

I recommend the Pulled Pork Arepa (Penril, $6.50), It was so good I went back to have another.

Try the Chicken Empanada’s (Pollo La Catira, $5.00), they are made from scratch it will change your view of the pre-frozen empanadas you’ve been bombarded with at Mexican and Latin restaurants.

If you are into fresh made juices Arepa Mia has amazing fresh made juices (Guava and Papaya) and they are amazing!

Wisconsin Cheddar Grilled Cheese Sandwich at One Eared Stag Inman Park, Atlanta

photo 2 (1)

One Eared Stag is the most cranking little restaurant bar in Inman Park; known for Fried Chicken on Monday night which I continue to unintentionally miss. Also, FYI: The fried chicken on Monday is about the only consistent dish on the menu as they change their menu just about every night.

The fries which are served with a spicy mayo made from scratch (not shown) are a must try. Also, if you so happen to be in the area during lunch try the Wisconsin cheddar grilled cheese with beer mustard.

If you are a spicy food connoisseur or up for the challenge, try the Hot Chicken, the flavors were great but far too spicy for me. If you dare have the “Corpse Reviver” if you are into craft cocktails (usually made with bitters and or other unusual ingredients).

Non-Stick Pans to be reserved for cooking eggs…

image22

While visiting a relative’s home out-of-town, for the first time in a long time I made a steak in a non-stick pan. I was not able to get that nice brown sear without draining the steak of its juices.

Why? Because a non-stick pan is not meant to sear; it’s made with the intention of not browning or “burning” so that crisp you see on a fish at restaurants is unlikely.

Either way, I was still able to maintain as much of the juices as I could by finishing it in the oven and maintaining a medium well temperature (although I prefer medium or medium rare). On the other hand if you are making eggs, pancakes or things that are to not be browned a non-stick pan is optimal.
