#ATLBBQFest And the winner is…….. #JimnNicksBBQ !!!!!!!

photo 3 (2)photo (1)

When I stood in line at the Jim-N-Nick’s BBQ stand at the Atlanta BBQ fest this past weekend, the cynical part of me said: “This long line better be worth the wait!” Once I made my way to the front of the line I resisted the rack of ribs and ordered the Pulled Pork and Grits with Grilled Corn. In this case my second choice prevailed! I am not sure where how what or who made the grits that creamy, how the sauce was so great or how the corn was so flavorful yet simply seasoned! In fact I don’t remember anything else I tried at the fest… :-/

Lentil Sambusa AKA (Samosa) at Meskerm Ethiopian Restaurant, Briarcliff, #Atlanta

photo

Every so often I stumble upon a restaurant that I was not intending to go to because I failed to make a reservation at a neighboring restaurant. I had the Sambusa for my appetizer, which is pretty much the Ethiopian version of a Samosa. I think they made it from scratch being as it took quite sometime for it to be brought to the table. Despite my impatience, they were worth the wait they were crispy hot and the lentils were perfectly seasoned.

“Take Me Out To The Ball Game” Chicago Dog at Wrigley Field, Chicago

photo (13)

Recently I took a trip to Chicago to see the Cubs play the Dodgers (But mostly for Deep Dish Pizza and Garrett’s). Just a tip to the newbies of Wrigley Field: The best Chicago Dogs are from the Stands (shown above) not the concession counters! Trust me I won’t lead you down the wrong path! The flavor in Vienna Beef Dogs are nothing short of amazing!

Also, there is an 85% chance that the tickets purchased at the ticket booth at Wrigley Field are less expensive than online and scalpers! Speaking from personal experience.

Bocado Burger, Herb Fries and Bland Chicken at Bocado West Midtown, Atlanta

20130902-143957.jpg

The pickles on the burger are made in house by H&F(Holman & Finch), perfect amount of cheese and the fries are addictive and made from scratch! I love their use of spicy mayo opposed to ketchup. They also have a good craft beer list….

On the other hand, the chicken and grits wasn’t their strong point, it was bland and the grits left nothing to desire….

But I digress, if you participate in their wine tastings you receive 20% off your entire meal!

Breaking News: Someone Figured out How to Make Tilapia Flavorful at Twist Buckhead, Atlanta

photo (14)

While late night dining with several people this past Friday, I decided to stray away from the tapas menu at Twist. Wanting something on the lighter side I decided to give the Blackened tilapia with tomatoes. To my surprise it was great. Although tilapia has no flavor profile, the Chefs at Twist were able to sear the fish to perfection and combine a great mix of seasonings.

Pasta Fagioli and “Richness” at Carpaccio Bal Harbor, Miami

photo 2 (5)photo (12)

Soup is the last thing that comes to mind when you think of Miami, but since I wasn’t in the mood for an entrée and their appetizers seemed kind of hefty as the trays carried by the waiters passed by, I decided to give the soup menu a go. After goggling “Pasta Fagioli” I decided to give it a try. I must add that I am not a fan of white bean soup or should I say bad white bean soup since the first and last time I tried it was at Bistro Nikko in Atlanta.

But I digress; was rather good. It was well seasoned and even better when you use drop the bread in.
On the other hand, the Ferrari Curano Central Coast Sauvignon Blanc by the glass was incredibly mediocre; to give the wine the benefit of the doubt, it may have gotten stale form being in their fridge for several days.

Now about the ambiance, centered in front of the esteemed Bal Harbor shops. The patio gives you lovely scenery of palm trees and the valet opening doors for kids being driven in Ferraris and beach blondes wielding Hermes Birkin Handbags while sipping champagne, even the restaurant maître d’ wears a Hermes belt.

The Funky Chicken Sandwich Grilled on The Big Green Egg Muss & Turner Smyrna, Atlanta

photo 1 (4)

I stumbled upon this place while on my way to a blind date, but I digress. The Funky Chicken (I shouldn’t quite call it a sandwich as it is made on a French Bun) is brined then grilled on the Big Green Egg with smoked bacon, provolone cheese and truffle aioli.

The flavor they were able to pack into this grilled chicken breast was nothing short of amazing.

Muss & Turner’s is a Marketplace and Cafe reminiscent to a Joan’s on 3rd if you’re from LA or Star Provisions Market if you are familiar with the West Midtown area of Atlanta.

They are not limited to sandwiches and potato salad, they boast a full wine and beer list as well as a dinner menu. I have not been there for dinner service but if I were to make a prediction based on The Funky Chicken, I would give them a try!

To make dinner a little more enticing: They offer a Tuesday night wine tasting with artisian cheese ($15) and Thursday night beer tasting.
