#ATLBBQFest And the winner is…….. #JimnNicksBBQ !!!!!!!

photo 3 (2)photo (1)

When I stood in line at the Jim-N-Nick’s BBQ stand at the Atlanta BBQ fest this past weekend, the cynical part of me said: “This long line better be worth the wait!” Once I made my way to the front of the line I resisted the rack of ribs and ordered the Pulled Pork and Grits with Grilled Corn. In this case my second choice prevailed! I am not sure where how what or who made the grits that creamy, how the sauce was so great or how the corn was so flavorful yet simply seasoned! In fact I don’t remember anything else I tried at the fest… :-/

The Funky Chicken Sandwich Grilled on The Big Green Egg Muss & Turner Smyrna, Atlanta

photo 1 (4)

I stumbled upon this place while on my way to a blind date, but I digress. The Funky Chicken (I shouldn’t quite call it a sandwich as it is made on a French Bun) is brined then grilled on the Big Green Egg with smoked bacon, provolone cheese and truffle aioli.

The flavor they were able to pack into this grilled chicken breast was nothing short of amazing.

Muss & Turner’s is a Marketplace and Cafe reminiscent to a Joan’s on 3rd if you’re from LA or Star Provisions Market if you are familiar with the West Midtown area of Atlanta.

They are not limited to sandwiches and potato salad, they boast a full wine and beer list as well as a dinner menu. I have not been there for dinner service but if I were to make a prediction based on The Funky Chicken, I would give them a try!

To make dinner a little more enticing: They offer a Tuesday night wine tasting with artisian cheese ($15) and Thursday night beer tasting.

Brunch at Campagnolo Midtown, Atlanta

photo 2 (3)

I love Brunch! It’s the most exciting part of Sunday it’s the perfect reason for Bloody Marys and Mimosa; so I while Scout Mob Surfing I stumbled upon Campagnolo and its 50% off deal, as most people would assume that if a restaurant has a “coupon” it must not be that great! Well you would be incorrect my friend! This is one of the best Brunch destinations in Atlanta!

Catch them while they are still on Scoutmob and have a Mimosa for me!

My Recommendations:
Tomato Bisque
Campagnolo Breakfast
Eggs Benedict
$5.00 Bloody Mary with $3.00 refills

$8.95 House Dish for Two at Tin Drum AsiaCafe Various Locations, Atlanta

photo 5

While attending Georgia State University this past year I frequented Tin Drum Asia Cafe. Typically I would have the egg drop soup (which was too salty for my taste) and a veggie spring roll (which i would recommend).

Yet, my last time there, in fact it was the day I turned in my last paper at GSU. I tried the Mango Stir Fry on top of a bed of fried rice ($8.95). Tin Drum has several House Dishes which are bowls of various chicken stir fry’s over a bed of a choice of white, brown or fried rice.

The mango stir fry consisted of:

Sweet-chili sauce, fresh mango, basil, onions, bell peppers, jalapenos, crispy chicken, steamed white rice

It was pretty good, what I would expect from a asian fast food joint. Nothing to sing hallelujah over but enough for a return visit. But I digress, this bowl is far too much for one person unless you plan on taking some home for later; instead bring a friend or lover and share, this is a great deal for two people at $8.95!

Wisconsin Cheddar Grilled Cheese Sandwich at One Eared Stag Inman Park, Atlanta

photo 2 (1)

One Eared Stag is the most cranking little restaurant bar in Inman Park; known for Fried Chicken on Monday night which I continue to unintentionally miss. Also, FYI: The fried chicken on Monday is about the only consistent dish on the menu as they change their menu just about every night.

The fries which are served with a spicy mayo made from scratch (not shown) are a must try. Also, if you so happen to be in the area during lunch try the Wisconsin cheddar grilled cheese with beer mustard.

If you are a spicy food connoisseur or up for the challenge, try the Hot Chicken, the flavors were great but far too spicy for me. If you dare have the “Corpse Reviver” if you are into craft cocktails (usually made with bitters and or other unusual ingredients).

Seared Duck At Barcelona Wine Bar Virginia Highlands, Atlanta

photo_1

Barcelona Wine Bar is one of my favorite bars in the city. On any given night it is slammed with cynical condescending business men. My type of spot. Either way being as they change their menu frequently this may no longer be available. This duck was served rare with corn sautéed with tomatoes, okra, peas and black pepper. It was a quaking perfection.

Their wine list is extensive and has many amazing wines from Chile and Spain. Half off bottles of wine on Sunday! Also, try their red wine Sangria!!

If you choose to dine on the weekends make sure you call for reservations!!

Fried Oyster Salad at White Oak Kitchen & Cocktails Downtown, Atlanta

image

(On Menu) FRIED OYSTERS: Old Bay Seasoning, Buttermilk Farmer’s Dressing, Bacon, Frisee Salad

I am typically not a fan of fried oysters, which may be odd because I enjoy raw oysters. Either way, the fresh crispy Frisee Salad and the subtle bacon flavors in the Buttermilk Dressing balance the well seasoned hot and crispy fried oysters making this dish a must try.

*I paired it with Elk Cove Sauvignon Blanc which was far sweeter than I expected; a Chenin Blanc or a dryer SB or Pinot Grogio would be far more complimentary.
