Pasta Fagioli and “Richness” at Carpaccio Bal Harbor, Miami

photo 2 (5)photo (12)

Soup is the last thing that comes to mind when you think of Miami, but since I wasn’t in the mood for an entrée and their appetizers seemed kind of hefty as the trays carried by the waiters passed by, I decided to give the soup menu a go. After goggling “Pasta Fagioli” I decided to give it a try. I must add that I am not a fan of white bean soup or should I say bad white bean soup since the first and last time I tried it was at Bistro Nikko in Atlanta.

But I digress; was rather good. It was well seasoned and even better when you use drop the bread in.
On the other hand, the Ferrari Curano Central Coast Sauvignon Blanc by the glass was incredibly mediocre; to give the wine the benefit of the doubt, it may have gotten stale form being in their fridge for several days.

Now about the ambiance, centered in front of the esteemed Bal Harbor shops. The patio gives you lovely scenery of palm trees and the valet opening doors for kids being driven in Ferraris and beach blondes wielding Hermes Birkin Handbags while sipping champagne, even the restaurant maître d’ wears a Hermes belt.

$8.95 House Dish for Two at Tin Drum AsiaCafe Various Locations, Atlanta

photo 5

While attending Georgia State University this past year I frequented Tin Drum Asia Cafe. Typically I would have the egg drop soup (which was too salty for my taste) and a veggie spring roll (which i would recommend).

Yet, my last time there, in fact it was the day I turned in my last paper at GSU. I tried the Mango Stir Fry on top of a bed of fried rice ($8.95). Tin Drum has several House Dishes which are bowls of various chicken stir fry’s over a bed of a choice of white, brown or fried rice.

The mango stir fry consisted of:

Sweet-chili sauce, fresh mango, basil, onions, bell peppers, jalapenos, crispy chicken, steamed white rice

It was pretty good, what I would expect from a asian fast food joint. Nothing to sing hallelujah over but enough for a return visit. But I digress, this bowl is far too much for one person unless you plan on taking some home for later; instead bring a friend or lover and share, this is a great deal for two people at $8.95!
