#ATLBBQFest And the winner is…….. #JimnNicksBBQ !!!!!!!

photo 3 (2)photo (1)

When I stood in line at the Jim-N-Nick’s BBQ stand at the Atlanta BBQ fest this past weekend, the cynical part of me said: “This long line better be worth the wait!” Once I made my way to the front of the line I resisted the rack of ribs and ordered the Pulled Pork and Grits with Grilled Corn. In this case my second choice prevailed! I am not sure where how what or who made the grits that creamy, how the sauce was so great or how the corn was so flavorful yet simply seasoned! In fact I don’t remember anything else I tried at the fest… :-/

Lentil Sambusa AKA (Samosa) at Meskerm Ethiopian Restaurant, Briarcliff, #Atlanta

photo

Every so often I stumble upon a restaurant that I was not intending to go to because I failed to make a reservation at a neighboring restaurant. I had the Sambusa for my appetizer, which is pretty much the Ethiopian version of a Samosa. I think they made it from scratch being as it took quite sometime for it to be brought to the table. Despite my impatience, they were worth the wait they were crispy hot and the lentils were perfectly seasoned.

“Take Me Out To The Ball Game” Chicago Dog at Wrigley Field, Chicago

photo (13)

20130904-141511.jpg
Recently I took a trip to Chicago to see the Cubs play the Dodgers (But mostly for Deep Dish Pizza and Garrett’s). Just a tip to the newbies of Wrigley Field: The best Chicago Dogs are from the Stands (shown above) not the concession counters! Trust me I won’t lead you down the wrong path! The flavor in Vienna Beef Dogs are nothing short of amazing!

Also, there is an 85% chance that the tickets purchased at the ticket booth at Wrigley Field are less expensive than online and scalpers! Speaking from personal experience.

Bocado Burger, Herb Fries and Bland Chicken at Bocado West Midtown, Atlanta

20130902-143957.jpg

The pickles on the burger are made in house by H&F(Holman & Finch), perfect amount of cheese and the fries are addictive and made from scratch! I love their use of spicy mayo opposed to ketchup. They also have a good craft beer list….

On the other hand, the chicken and grits wasn’t their strong point, it was bland and the grits left nothing to desire….

But I digress, if you participate in their wine tastings you receive 20% off your entire meal!

Mixed Grill a Meat Lovers Delight at Barcelona Wine Bar Virginia Highlands, Atlanta

photo 1 (3)

If you love meat Barcelona is your destination. The Barcelona mixed grill or Argentine Churrasco is a great mix of poultry, pork and steak. Very pure grilled smokey flavor not overwhelmed with seasonings.

Barcelona Mixed Grill
Two or more, 24.50 per person
NY Strip, Chicken, Pork Chop,
Gaucho Sausage

There are other mixed grills on the menu that contain fish or duck.

The and wine list or should I say book of wine filled with wines from South America. There has to be over 100 wines to choose from which is great for half off bottles of wine on Sunday! Also, please try the red wine sangria (in photo) it won’t let you down!

On any given night of the week (perhaps not in the past few weeks due to the relentless rain) patrons waiting for a table will crab a cocktail and converse on the sidewalk in front of the outdoor patio. Please make reservations if you are not in the mood to elbow your way to a seat at the bar or stand on the sidewalk for 45min while waiting for a table as it is usually standing room only after 7pm Wednesday through Saturday:

The Funky Chicken Sandwich Grilled on The Big Green Egg Muss & Turner Smyrna, Atlanta

photo 1 (4)

I stumbled upon this place while on my way to a blind date, but I digress. The Funky Chicken (I shouldn’t quite call it a sandwich as it is made on a French Bun) is brined then grilled on the Big Green Egg with smoked bacon, provolone cheese and truffle aioli.

The flavor they were able to pack into this grilled chicken breast was nothing short of amazing.

Muss & Turner’s is a Marketplace and Cafe reminiscent to a Joan’s on 3rd if you’re from LA or Star Provisions Market if you are familiar with the West Midtown area of Atlanta.

They are not limited to sandwiches and potato salad, they boast a full wine and beer list as well as a dinner menu. I have not been there for dinner service but if I were to make a prediction based on The Funky Chicken, I would give them a try!

To make dinner a little more enticing: They offer a Tuesday night wine tasting with artisian cheese ($15) and Thursday night beer tasting.

The Recipe Snatcher

theif1

For the next few weeks or so I will be taking recipes from fellow bloggers, cook books and television personalities and preparing them myself and documenting the outcome.

There are times where a few things may need to be tweaked in a recipe such as the amount of people to be served and substitutions.

I am no Bobby Flay, Mario Batali nor will I be taking pictures with a $2000.00 camera and putting the pictures through Photoshop. These will be authentic pictures taken with non other than my iPhone camera.

*And of course I will include a link to the recipe author.

photo 2 (3)

I love Brunch! It’s the most exciting part of Sunday it’s the perfect reason for Bloody Marys and Mimosa; so I while Scout Mob Surfing I stumbled upon Campagnolo and its 50% off deal, as most people would assume that if a restaurant has a “coupon” it must not be that great! Well you would be incorrect my friend! This is one of the best Brunch destinations in Atlanta!

Catch them while they are still on Scoutmob and have a Mimosa for me!

My Recommendations:

Fried Potato Salad at King and Duke Buckhead, Atlanta

image

I was not expecting this when the waiter told me to try the potato salad. This definitely put potato salad on its head. I was actually impressed. King and Duke has a great ambiance and is a twist on modern American restaurant. Make sure you make a reservation, it gets pretty crowded after 6pm.
